Oil-ternative® Asphalt Paving Release Agent is a plant-based, biodegradable alternative to diesel fuel and petroleum-based paving release agents. Made from refined post-consumer cooking oil collected on Vancouver Island, it prevents hot mix asphalt from bonding to truck beds, dump bodies, rollers, pavers, hand tools, and drag slats — without the environmental and regulatory risks that come with diesel.

What Is an Asphalt Release Agent?

An asphalt release agent — also called a truck bed release, paving release, or asphalt bond breaker — is applied to equipment surfaces before loading or working with hot mix asphalt (HMA). It creates a thin protective film that prevents the sticky bituminous mix from bonding to metal and rubber surfaces during hauling, paving, and compaction.

Without a release agent, asphalt sticks aggressively to dump truck beds, roller tires, paver components, and hand tools. The consequences are real:
